Intake Manifold

Removal and Installation

Removal - V6 models

  1. Before you start, remove the fuel pump fuse, and start the car until it will no longer run. Crank the car a few more times to make sure all of the fuel has been used. If you don't do this, your fuel rail will be full of fuel, which could be a bit messy when you remove it or the fuel lines.
  2. As always, don't forget to remove the negative battery cable.
  3. Remove the plenum.
  4. Bend down the tab on the bottom of the cold start injector. (Follow the tube from the end of the fuel rail to find it.) Remove the tube on the other end of the fuel rail. The only way I could figure out to remove it was to remove the nut, and pull the tube out of the top.
  5. Remove the 4 10mm bolts in the rear (trunk) side of the middle intake manifold.
  6. This is where I disagreed with the Haynes manual. They say you can remove the fuel lines from the fuel rail, and remove the fuel rail and middle intake manifold as a unit. I found that one of the fuel lines, and the fuel rail itself block the last two bolts on the front side of the manifold. Here's the way I did it.
  7. Remove the fuel lines from the fuel rail. I didn't have a wrench for them handy, so I just removed the fuel block (3 Torx screws from the fuel rail instead.
  8. Now you can move the fuel rail enough to remove the four 10mm bolts in the front side of the mid intake manifold.
  9. At this point, I would suggest you take some compressed air (buy a can if you don't have a compressor) to get all of the dust and dirt out from the area before you remove the fuel rail, so dirt doesn't go in the injector holes.
  10. The Haynes manual says to remove the connector from each fuel injector. It is much easier to simply remove the 6-pin connector between it and the wiring harness.
  11. The injectors were in there pretty well on my car. To get them out, I had to pull up on one side of the mid intake manifold until it popped the injectors out of their holes, then do the same on the other side.
  12. Now you can just lift up the mid intake manifold and fuel rail out together, like the Haynes manual suggests.
